Traveling near the exit ramp for El Sueno Road at Highway 101, a Santa Barbara man crashed his vehicle late Friday, July 5, 2013, causing a three-car accident near Los Angeles, California. The male driver was traveling at approximately 11:00 p.m. and, after losing control, collided with an unmarked police car and with two police officers in it.
Upon impact with the police car, the driver's Subaru flipped and landed on its roof, while the police SUV turned over onto its side. A third vehicle traveling west on Calle Real was hit by the police SUV. The car accident shut down roads in the area for approximately two hours.
None of the drivers involved required an ambulance, as their injuries were minor. Once the officers helped the driver out of his vehicle, it was determined that he was suspected to be intoxicated. Based upon this suspicion, the driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
A victim of a car accident may need to take prompt steps to protect his or her rights in order to recover compensation for all losses sustained from the accident. With the help of an attorney, liability claims for people who suffer injuries as a result of being hit by a drunk driver can be established with the relevant information. In cases of DUI accidents, the police records and subsequent court records will probably be sufficient to prove that the driver who was intoxicated was at fault for causing the accident. Once the liability of the drunk driver has been made clear, the only major issue that remains is proving personal injuries and damages in order to obtain full and fair compensation.
